Program 01

Community Hazard Readiness & Risk Reduction Program (CHRRP)

The Community Hazard Readiness & Risk Reduction Program equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to reduce risk and respond effectively to environmental and operational hazards.

The program focuses on real-world hazards such as wildfire, air quality events, hazardous materials incidents, and infrastructure disruptions.

What participants learn

  • Recognizing hazard conditions and risk factors
  • Understanding exposure pathways and potential consequences
  • Making protective action decisions, including evacuation and shelter-in-place
  • Developing household emergency plans
  • Implementing risk reduction strategies

Program 02

Community Lifesaving and Emergency Skills Program (CLASP)

The Community Lifesaving and Emergency Skills Program provides practical, credentialed training that prepares individuals to take immediate lifesaving action during medical emergencies.

Training is delivered by instructors aligned with an American Heart Association Training Center and includes both certification-based and community-access training formats. Instruction is supported by experienced emergency response, fire service, public health, CERT, EMT, and Medical Reserve Corps–affiliated preparedness backgrounds.

Training components

  • American Heart Association Heartsaver® CPR/AED
  • Heartsaver First Aid
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for designated responders
  • STOP THE BLEED® hemorrhage-control training delivered by a certified instructor

What participants learn

  • Recognizing life-threatening medical emergencies
  • Performing high-quality CPR
  • Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Controlling severe bleeding
  • Providing basic first aid
  • Activating emergency services effectively

Integrated program model

CHRRP prepares individuals to recognize hazards and take protective action. CLASP prepares individuals to respond to medical emergencies during the first critical minutes.

Evaluation

Measured, documented, and improved over time.

Program effectiveness is evaluated using pre- and post-training assessments, preparedness adoption tracking, participant feedback, and outcome analysis. This supports funding, partner reporting, and continuous improvement.
